The new types of installation created by the
introduction of high density servers require cooling
solutions which are able to adapt to specific projects
which are to be designed.
This process needs to be carried out differently to the
way it has been in the past, since the sizing is related
to the kW/Rack ratio and not, as has been the case so
far, to the proportion between the dispersed thermal
capacity and the surface area (kW/m2).
The flexibility created by the new technology
which is available, has lead to the need for new cooling
solutions to be developed. These solutions need to be
able to adapt to daily fluctuations in the thermal load
and also to the increases in this load which are
generated by up-grades within existing installations.
Safety and reliability are fundamental requirements for
cooling systems used for high density racks since the
equipment must be protected even in the event of an
emergency.
